February 8th, 2010

The winter is one of the hardest times to save on your energy costs because it is the time when you are starting to get colder by the winter chill, and you are yearning to turn the temperature up on the thermometer. But you know that that will surely increase your energy bill signifcantly. In this article we will go over some of the basic ways, and will give you tips on some basic ways to save energy during the winter time. Since we all know that nearly everyone turns the heat up high to fight off those winter chills.

The first tip is to get a programmable thermostat if you do not have one already. That way you can keep it at a warmer temperature during the day if you would like, but lower it during the night because you can always use your blankets, or even buy an extra one to keep you warm at night.

If you are going out to buy a programmable thermostat then there are a few tips on those that you should know about before you fully install the system. First off it would be a good thing if you put it in correctly. If you put it in incorrectly then you can blow a fuse, or even your electricity would go off, and you would be without any heat source for a while until you can have someone come look at your thermostat.

Another tip is not to make it too toasty inside your house. Lower the temperature a little bit and where socks, and sweaters around your house. That will help save you money when you need it. Another tip that isn’t all well known is to get a humidifier. If you add moisture to the air, especially if you live in an arid place, then it will make the air feel warmer. Since wetter air means warmer air. Which is usually why you notice the weather to be a little on the warmer side before it starts to rain. Finally, caulk up any other drafts that you can find in your home. That way you can keep any unnecessary coldness out of your house.

So now you know a little bit more about how to save energy during those winter months. We’ve given you several tips in which you can achieve the perfect temperature in you home. Remember to use these tips this winter season to lower your energy bills!
